 Nantucket's Only Charitable Catch and Release Striped Bass Tournament

     The Spring Sea Run Opener is entering its' eighth annual catch and release striped bass tournament! After great success in the first seven seasons!  We are excited for the arrival of Spring and the ensuing striped bass migration!

     This tournament is all about getting back outside and enjoying the best of what Nantucket has to offer while raising money for a local non profit organization. Prizes will be awarded to participants competing individually or as part of a team for a variety of different catch types including first landed sea run striper, first bluefish, smallest striper in length, first keeper bass 28" or larger and the largest striped bass of the tournament.  Any participant that registers a catch will also be eligible to receive one of many prizes drawn at random, including the grand prize in which he or she will be able to select the island charity that will receive the proceeds of the tournament!

 

     Our JUNIOR DIVISION is free to all anglers under the age of 18.  Please send any junior angler registration information to springsearunopener@gmail.com (Name, Age, Contact Information or parent/guardian contact).

     A Nantucket native, Arizona State University Alum, and avid fisherman.  Rafael founded the tournament based on his love for fishing as a way to connect with the beautiful island that is Nantucket and the people that inhabit it.  He and his better half Starr Rivard are new parents to thier baby boy, Rafael Morone Osona.

     Starr, parter to Raf Osona and mother of Raf Jr. was born in Greenfield Massachusetts but has lived on and off Nantucket for almost two decades.  Starr is a college graduate, world traveler and proud mother.  Her support of the tournament and continued creativity has given the event fresh ideas and direction from its' inception.  

Lonell  Rodgers
Graphic Design/Consultant

     Lonell, a talented and devoted fisherman, and native of Virginia came to Nantucket as a young adult and fell in love with its' landscapes, lifestyle and cast of year round characters.  Lonell helped the vision of this tournament become a reality with his keen insight and graphic design skills.
